FAQ

1. When is the starting date of the project? every year, from January to December.

2. Is there a limit of time for volunteering? we have short and long term volunteer programs. The short term from four weeks to one month, the long term from two months to one year (extension applicable),  depending on the projects' needs and volunteer agreement.


3. What is the age limit? we prefer mature persons (considering maturity by being legally approved by law of country of origin; however youths  of age 18 years can apply( with National Identification cards)  So that we comply with international work ethics and labor laws  are welcome to come to apply.

4. Do I need experience in volunteering? We need experienced and non-experienced volunteers. However volunteers should show  interest and are willing to learn and share their knowledge to the project.

5. What is your expectation towards a volunteer? we look people who enjoys team work, cooperation and seek the common good. We also expect volunteers to work in areas of their capability i.e. supporting raising awareness, food security, organic agriculture, building projects, etc.

6. What are the weekly working hours? usually from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:00, but it will depend on the agreed time of both parties, meaning a comprehensive time table/working plan to be drawn with the consent of all. It is also possible to visit the lake and other touristic attractions and national parks.


7. What should I bring? a towel, gum boots (recommended but not compulsory), jacket for change in weather, a light, a gift from your country to the project (if affordable), hat, personal things. ​
 

8. What type of clothes do I need? here is warm moderate climate and some times it is cold especially during march - depending on the time of year you will  need light or heavy clothes (of course the weather is not extreme so dont worry to bring your winter jacket!), please contact us for more information.


9. Do I need vaccinations? yes, some vaccinations are recommended to take (e.g. yellow fever). Please contact your local health institution before traveling.


10. Do I have to pay for volunteering? no. Its not required to pay for your stay during your time with us. However monetary support is welcome. In reality, Rusinga Island can not produce enough food and we are facing hunger due to severe weather/drought /poverty problems. We would be very thankful if you her could subsidy the cost of food. 

 

11. What role do we expect from volunteers? we expect volunteer who are skilled in computer, fund raising skills, lovers of community development to help us with fundraising tips and to volunteer their effort in fund raising, project management and designing   of short and long term planning from the research based approach.
